Unlike most entry-level cars in the premium segment, the TSX has only a four-cylinder engine-a trade-off in bragging rights vs. the bigger six- and even eight-cylinder engines that competitors offer, but good for gas mileage. The engine in the TSX is large (2.4 liters) and powerful (205 hp) for a nonturbocharged four-cylinder. According to Vincentric, the TSX sedan with five-speed automatic transmission gets slightly better mileage than the same car with a six-speed manual transmission, which still gets a roughly comparable 22 mpg. Contrary to what many drivers grew up to expect, cars with modern automatic transmissions often get better mileage than those with manual transmissions.
